There is a long application process to ensure DSCR dogs go to the right family. This process makes certain that our dogs will stay in their loving families for life. If you decide to bring a second rescue into your home from DSCR, we already know your dog and have the expertise to match a second dog to your home.
Our founder, Pam Dixon, spends 6-8 weeks working with each rescue dog to prepare them for the perfect family. She knows which dogs are good with children, get along with other animals, or may need a quieter home with adults. She is honest in her evaluations so that each dog is placed with the right family.
While Pam knows her dogs best, she works closely with her staff to learn about each adopter, household members, and their home to make the perfect fit. Her staff reaches out to references, veterinarian offices, and conducts virtual home visits. Pam and her staff then come together as a team to make the final decision on which home our rescue dog(s) will thrive.
If you have questions or concerns during the adoption process or afterward, please reach out DCSR. Once you adopt with us, we do consider you part of our family. We want to help guide you with your newest family member. We work hard to give each of our rescue dogs a loving home. Most of our adopters live in the Northeast and we do have volunteers in the area.
